R-Anell Homes Receives Industry Award for Universal Design Concept Home
DENVER, NORTH CAROLINA, April 15, 2004 — R-Anell Homes, the oldest and most established manufacturer of custom homes in the Southeast since 1972, has received a 2004 Modular and New Home Design Award from the national Manufactured Housing Institute for its universal design home concept.

The design award was part of a national industry awards program this week at the 2004 National Congress & Expo for Manufactured and Modular Housing being held April 13-15 at Caesars Palace Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. At the same awards ceremony, R-Anell Homes President, Dennis Jones, was named the 2004 Industry Person of the Year.

The universal design, based upon the idea of "aging in place", is aimed at providing the ability for homebuyers to buy this R-Anell home and remain there during every stage of life because the home design will never "outgrow" the owner in providing amenities that make navigating the home possible no matter what a person’s age or physical constraints.

"R-Anell Homes is very pleased that our universal design concept home was chosen as a winner by MHI," said Dennis Jones, president of R-Anell Homes and current vice chairman of MHI. "We feel very strongly that now is a crucial time to provide a universal design plan that allows the home to fit all aspects, and all stages, of a homebuyer’s life. With an aging population that continues to grow dramatically, this home concept anticipates what the future will bring with a home design that literally works for everyone."

R-Anell’s universal design family of homes concept consists of six exterior appearances, yielding five interior design choices. The intent of the concept is to simplify the home features without adding any significant costs within the design. When R-Anell Homes began its plan to bring a systems built concept to life for universal design, the company partnered with the Center for Universal Design at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina.

The older population will have significant growth between the years 2010 and 2030 as the "baby boom" generation reaches age 65. The Projections of Population by Age taken from the January 2004 Census Internet Release states: "By 2030 there will be about 71.5 million older persons, more than twice their number in 2000. People 65+ represented 12.4 percent of the population in the year 2000, but are expected to grow to be 20 percent of the population by 2030. The 85+ population is projected to increase from 4.6 million to 9.6 million in 2030."

R-Anell Homes is a privately owned company with 350 employees. The company operates two manufacturing facilities in Denver and Cherryville, North Carolina.
